Yngwie Malmsteen is a bit of an oxymoron. He's a shredding metal guitarist but he really plays classical music on the guitar. Normally, when you think of classical guitar music, you're thinking of acoustic guitar with nylon strings playing complex baroque melodies with intricate harmonies. Malmsteen did that on a scalloped fret Fender Strat with distortion sped up to dastardly speeds. He came into the public eye in the early 80s and has been melting our faces off ever since.
