The Japanese musician had been making music for decades at that point, starting off as a member of the legendary group Yellow Magic Orchestra while also leading a successful solo career the whole time. YMO lasted into the 1990s, but Sakamoto's solo career lasted for the rest of his life, constantly shifting into new and unknown territories. Sadly, he passed away in 2023, but his impact on music has been immense and profound.
