Celia Cruz passed away in 2003, after an amazing 60-year career. Cruz, who was born in Cuba in 1925, rose to popularity singing guarachaĀ in the 1950s. She moved to the United States in the 60s after the Cuban Revolution. Cruz was signed to Fania records in the 70s andĀ made her first studio album in 1974. Cruz continuedĀ recording and performing until the end of her life, winning Grammys and Latin Grammys and even eventually being awarded the National Endowment Of The Arts Award from President Bill Clinton in 1994.
